Letter from D. P. Helker (Exelon Generation Company, LLC) to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, "Relief Requests Associated with Fifth Ten-Year lnservice Testing Interval," dated September 29, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17275A061)
- 2.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code of Operation and Maintenance for Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code) 2012 Edition, dated April 8, 2013 In Reference 1, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (EGC) requested four relief requests associated with the fifth ten-year lnservice Testing (IST) Interval for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS), Units 2 and 3. The fifth interval of the PBAPS IST Program is currently scheduled to begin on August 15, 2018, and will comply with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code for Operation and Maintenance of Nuclear Power Plants (OM Code) 2012 Edition and no Addenda.
The purpose of this letter is to formally withdraw one of the four relief requests that were transmitted with Reference 1. Specifically, EGC is withdrawing the following relief request:
Relief Request 01A-VRR-2, "Main Steam Safety Relief Valves (SRVs) with ADS Function" - Relief requested in accordance with 10 CFR 50.55a(z)(1)
Subsequent to submittal of Reference 1, it was determined that relief request 01A-VRR-2 is not required. As discussed with the NRC on October 10, 2017, and as indicated in Reference 2, the ASME OM Code, Section l-3410(d), was revised in the 2012 Edition to allow for inspection rather than stroke testing of the subject valves. Based on this information, relief request 01A-VRR-2 is no longer necessary and is being withdrawn.
The three remaining relief requests in Reference 1 remain valid. EGC requests approval of the three remaining relief requests by August 15, 2018.
There are no regulatory commitments contained within this letter.
