SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTiON REPORT 50-397/98-07 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Parrish:
. From May 4-8, 1998, an NRC inspection was conducted at your Washington Nuclear Project-2
reactor facility. The inspection focused on radiation protection activities. The enclosed report
presents the scope and results of that inspection.
A violation, with three examples, was identified involving the failure to perform proper
radiological surveys.
This violation is of concern'ecause
the failure to perform proper surveys
was a previously identified violation in NRC Inspection Report 50-397/97-16.
The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances.
surrounding the violation are described in detail in the enclosed report. Please note that you are
required to respond to this letter and should followthe instructions specified in the enclosed
Notice when preparing your response.
The NRC willuse your response,
in part, to determine
whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 ofthe NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosure(s), and your response willbe placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
