SUBJECT:
R. Auluck, Project Yaiiager Licensing Branch No. 2, DL MEETING SUtSARY, WNP-2 ELECTRICAL CABLE SEPARATION In response to a memorandum from R. H. Engelken, Regional Administrator, Region V to H.
R. Denton, Director,
- NRR, a meeting,to discuss the WNP-2 cable separation criteria was held in Walnut Creek, Region V'n September 13 8 14, 1982.
NRR participants were T. Novak, H. Sr inivasan, S.
Rhow and R. Auluck.
Highlights af;the meeting are briefly described below.
John Elin, Project Inspector, started with his presentation on the status of the inspection activities concerning cable separation at WNP-2 site.
Examples of the deYiations from the criteria accepted by WPPSS and NRC staff in 1981 (WPPSS letter 8G02-81-146, G.
D. Bouchey Ito R.',L'. Tedesco, dated June 18, 1981) were shown and discussed.
John indicated that the FSAR-writeup is too complex and the requirements
-for:a given situation are difficult to determine.
The color coding scheme is very confusing and is not consistant throughout the plant.
John also stressed that the verification that field installation complies with separation cri'teria very difficult.
H. Srinivasan,
- Chief, Power Systems Branch, explained briefly the general review philosophy of licensing plants of WNP-2 vintage, who do not meet,t;he R.
G. 1-75 requirements.
Non-class IE cables are allowed to share raceways and trays with class IE cables as long as they stay in the same d'ivision (i.e.
same non-class IE circuit does not share raceways with Div.
1 8 Div. 2).
He further noted that the WNP-2 situation is probably similar to the situation at the Seabrook project.
S.
- Rhow, Power Systems Branch, briefly described four category of circuits used at the WNP-2 site.
The following action plan was agreed upon at the end of the meeting:
WPPSS will submit the revised section 8.3 of 'the
.FFSAR
.to. NRC staff by SepteItber 22, 1982.
The staff will review and revise SER section 8.4.1, which will be included in a later SSER.
