SUBJECT:

POSSIBLE YOUNG FAULTS ~ tlNP2/PUGET POWER NEll SITE (HANFORD)

On April 19, 1980 we were informed by telephone conference call jointly by WPPSS and Puget Power Co. of the discovery of possible young (capable) faulting near Gable flountain, Washington.

These faults are located between 9 1/2 and 14 miles, respectively, from 1JNP-2.

The projection along strike could bring them closer to the site.

These faults were identified by Golder.Associates, consultants to Puget, Power.

The USGS was included in the conference call.

Further trenching is underway and the most opportu'ne time for a site

'visit is expected to be the first week in October, This discovery could lead to a modification in the.understanding of the tectonics of the area and lead to more extensive review.
