Dear Mr. Youngblood:
Subject:
Temporary Suspension of the Preoperational Radiolo ical Monitorin Pro ram for WNP-2
References:
1)
U.S.
NRC Regulatory Guide 4.8, "Environmental Technical Specifications for Nuclear Power Plants" 2)
U.S.
NRC Branch Technical Position on U.S.
NRC Regulatory Guide 4.8, dated November 1979 Due to announced schedule slippages for fuel; load of WNP-2 at Hanford (now set for mid 1982), various pertinent preoperational monitoring and baseline study requirements and commitments have been reviewed.
The Preoperational Radiological Monitoring Program identified in the refer-enced documents requires that certain items be collected for two (2) years prior to fuel load ("phase one") while others are collected for periods of six (6) months or one (1) year.
The first phase of samplings have now been conducted for two years and we have concluded that the regulatory requirements set forth pertaining to this program have been met.
It is, therefore, our intent to suspend sampling until one year prior to fuel load.
At that time, they will be re-started along with the second phase of studies.
Should you have any questions, please contact Hr. Hark Miller on extension 5576.
Sincerely, DLR/MLM/sms D. L. Renberger Assistant Director, Technology
