Subject:

WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECT NO.. 2, IE BULLETIN 79-23 f4

Dear Nr. Engelken:

The Washington Public Power Supply System has reviewed the subject

,IE Bulletin and submits the following in response:

The problem described in the subject bulletin will not affect the operation of the on-site power. systems at WNP-2. The diesel generators 1 and 2 in this unit have a neutral grounding resistor to limit neutral current flow to less than 12.5 amps. Also, the exci tation power transformer has no connec'tions to ground.

Diesel generator 3 (HPCS) is grounded through a neutral transformer with appropriate relaying to alarm if circulating current is present, and the excitation power transformers are delta connected and have no connection to ground.

The diesel generators will be tested for sustained full load operation during the Pre-operational Test Program. The test will demonstrate full load carrying capability for an interval of not less than 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
, of which 22 hours2.546296e-4 days
0.00611 hours
3.637566e-5 weeks
8.371e-6 months
will be at a load equivalent to the continuous rating of the diesel generator andtwo hours at a load equivalent to the two-hour rating of the diesel generator.

Ver truly yours,

~ L.~ RENBERGER Assistant Director, Technology
