No: 17-00x XXXXX x, 2017 CONTACT: Holly Harrington, 301-415-8200 Draft NRC Seeks to Fill Open Reactor Safegua rds Advisory Committee Position The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking a qualified candidate for appointment to its Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards. The ACRS is an advisory group that provides independent technical review of, and advice on, matters related to the safety of existing and proposed nuclear facilities, and on the adequacy of proposed reactor safety standards. It also advises the Commission on issues in health physics and radiation protection. For this position, a candidate must have extens ive experience in nuclear power plant light water reactor severe accident behavior, accident source terms, and aerosol/particulate dynamics for LWRs and advanced reactor systems. Best qualified candidates must also have at least 20 years of broad experience and a distinguished record of achievement in one or more areas of nuclear science and technology or related engineering disc iplines. Consistent with the requirements of the Federal Advisory Committee Act, the Commission seeks a candidate with a diverse background, so membership on the Committee is balanced in terms of the points of view and functions to be performed.
