Dear Sir or Madam:

In Reference 2, Entergy Operations Inc. (Entergy), requested an alternative for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) lnservice Inspection Program. The request is applicable to the upcoming 4th ten-year inservice inspection interval starting December 1, 2017 and endin~ on November 1, 2024. The proposed alternative is for performing the American Society Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code required examination on 100% of the nozzle-to-vessel welds and nozzle inner radius sections using ASME Code Case N-702. Reference 2 was a Request for Additional Information (RAI) associated with the requirements in ASME Code Case N-648-1. Attachment 1 to this letter provides the response to the RAI.

Attachment 1 GNR0-20 17/00064 Page 1 of 1 Relief Request GG-ISl-22 Request for Additiona l Informatio n Question s and Response s RAl-1: If the licensee chooses to implement VT-1 in lieu of UT, please confirm that all the requirements addressed in ASME Code Case N-648-1 and the staff's condition associated with this Code Case is met for the fourth ISi interval at GGNS.

Entergy Response : If GGNS elects to perform a VT-1 visual examination in lieu of an ultrasonic examination, Code Case N-648-1 will be used. Code Case N-648-1 is incorporated into the current lnservice Inspection Program {Third Interval) and is also incorporated into the revised lnservice Inspection Program for the upcoming Fourth Interval. Code Case N-648-1 is implemented as conditioned in Regulatory Guide 1.147, Table 2.
