Dear Dr. Mecredy:
We have been reviewing your submittal of December 17, 1997, co'nceming Revision 24 of your Quality Assurance Plan and have determined that we need additional information to continue our review. The enclosed request for additional information identifies the information needed.
Please provide a response within 45 days from receipt of this letter.

We noted that there were changes made, that were not identified in this submittal as "reductions" to the Quality Assurance (QA) program description commitments previously approved by the NRC and which may,have been implemented.
Such changes willnot be reviewed or evaluated pursuant to the provisions of f50.54(a). The QA program compliance with the'requirements of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50 willcontinue to be verified by the NRC staff through the formal inspection process. 'incerely,

GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT Please supplement your December 17, 1997, submittal to clarifywhich ~secific periodic activities described in QAPSO, Revision 24, Table 17.1.7-1, will be applied the+25% "grace period" for deferral.
In addition, please describe the impact of such deferral on your audit activities and corresponding commitments to Regulatory Guide (RG) 1.33, Rev. 2, and RG 1.144, Rev. 1.
The NRC staff provided amplifying guidance to the industry on this subject in its December 24, 1996, letter to NEI, "Selecting and Scheduling Internal Audits (Reference NEI Letter, dated January 30, 1996)."
