Dear Mr. Vissing:
Rochester Gas and Electric was granted an exemption from the requirements of Section III.G of Appendix R to 10CFR50 for the absence of a continuous fire-rated barrier at the common boundary between Fire Areas ABI and ABBM, at the Refueling Water Storage Tank.
This exemption is listed as the first. request in Reference (a), which documents that this exemption was granted.
In Reference (b),
RG&E notified the NRC that the fire barrier was temporarily degraded by removal of the 8 foot high concrete block shield wall, and that the barrier was being sealed by insertion of a 12 inch minimum depth of kaowool into a 6 inch gap, and closure of the gap by a 3/4 inch thick steel plate.
These references are enclosed.
This permanent installation has been completed.
Therefore, RG&E no longer requires an exemption for the absence of a continuous fire-rated barrier in this location.
