NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-244/97-10
Dear Dr. Mecredy:
This letter transmits the results of safety inspections conducted by NRC inspectors at the
Ginna Nuclear Power Plant from September 8, 1997, through October 13, 1997. At the
conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with Mr. J. Widay and others of
. your staff.
During the five week period covered by this inspection period, we observed safe plant
operations.
We also found that your licensed operator requalification program was
satisfactory.
However, we noted two instances of weak configuration control for plant
equipment that warrant management attention.
Overall, maintenance
and engineering were effective in evaluating and maintaining plant
equipment.
The independent assessments
of your maintenance
rule program were
appropriate and timely. Our evaluation of your emergency preparedness
program indicated
that it has been very well maintained.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
