Dear Dr. Mecredy:
NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-244/97-09
This letter transmits the results of safety inspections conducted
by NRC inspectors at the
Ginna Nuclear Power Plant from August 4, through September
7, 1997. At the conclusion
of the inspection, the findings were discussed
with Mr. J. Widay and others of your staff.
During the five week period covered by this inspection period, we noted safe plant
operations'.
Overall operator performance during the inspection period was good.
Minor
,difficulties were observed with the existing process for monitoring lifted leads and jumpers
in the plant; however, these did not effect safe operation of the plant,
Good maintenance
and safety practices were also observed.
Your radioactive waste
management
and radioactive materials shipping programs were effectively managed;
however, two quality assurance
audits in this area were weak.
ln accordance
with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice,"
a copy of this letter
and its enclosures
will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
