Dear Dr. Mecredy:
This letter refers to the followup inspection of your engineering activities
conducted
by Mr. A. Lohmeier during the period October 11-17,
1994, at the
Rochester
Gas
and Electric Corporate Office in Rochester,
The
inspection reviewed actions taken
by Rochester
Gas
and Electric Company for
resolution of unresolved
items,
a program for installation of replacement
and the monitoring of transient operation cycles.
The
preliminary findings were discussed
with your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
The inspector
found the replacement
design similar in thermal
performance to the original steam generator,
and reflects the attention given
by your engineering staff to correcting the original steam generator
design
problems.
The steam generator
replacement
process
is clearly defined,
and the
installation
and testing plan carefully prepared.
The retention of cyclic operating data is consistent with Tech
Spec
(UFSAR)
Section 6. 10.2.g
and your evaluation of the cyclic operation
component
usage
factors is appropriate for maintenance of nuclear
components.
However,
procedures
to affect data retention
and evaluation
have not been identified in
your procedural
manuals.
Unresolved
items 94-015-01
and 50-244/93-021-01
were closed,
and unresolved
items 91-201-07
and 93-020-01
remain open.

unresolved
items are appreciated.
