Dear Dr. Mecredy:
SUBJECT'RC INSPECTION 50-244/94-07
This letter transmits the March 9 to May 2, 1994 inspection findings of Messrs. T. Moslak and
E. Knutson at the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant. At the end of the inspection, the findings
were discussed with Mr. J. Widay and other members of your staff.
The inspection was focused on areas
relevant to public health and safety and examined
the
control of operations,
maintenance,
engineering,
and plant support activities conducted during
this period.
Within this scope, excellent coordination was evident between management,
the
work control center, and the control room staff to assess
and reduce shutdown risks. The Plant
Operation Review Committee was found to provide prompt, conservative assessments
of plant
events and emergent operational issues.
Particularly noteworthy was the significant reduction
in total personnel
exposure
achieved
during the outage period.
This effort reflects well
structured, integrated planning and strong management
support to the ALARAprinciple.
