Dear Dr. Mecredy:
SUBJECT:
PROPOSED SUPPLEMENT 1
TO GENERIC LETTER 89-04, "GUIDANCE ON DEVELOPING ACCEPTABLE INSERVICE TESTING PROGRAMS" The staff has prepared a draft'upplement for Generic Letter (GL) 89-04.
When issued, this GL supplement will forward NUREG-1482, "Guidelines for Inservice Testing Programs at Nuclear Power Plants," which provides NRC recommendations for a number of generic issues concerning the implementation and development of inservice testing programs.
The intent of NUREG-1482 is, in part, to provide the required "Commission approval" pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(f)(4)(iv) to allow implementation of certain portions of ASIDE Code editions or addenda, incorporated in 10 CFR 50.55a(b) without further submittal of formal "relief requests."
No new staff requirements are imposed.
The remaining staff recommendations provide guidance on information that should be included in relief requests and provide specific details for those requests that have generic applications.
On December 16, 1993, the Commission issued a notice of opportunity for public comment in the Federal
~Re ister (58 FR 65738) for the proposed supplement.
The staff is se'eking comment from interested parties regarding both the technical and regulatory aspects of the proposed GL supplement and the current draft of NUREG-1482.
