SUBJECT: INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-244/93-13
This letter refers to the announced
engineering and technical support inspection conducted by
Mr. H. Gregg of this office at the Rochester
Gas and Electric Corporation, Nuclear
Engineering Services Department offices and the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant on
June 14-18, and August 30 - September 3, 1993.
Mr. Gregg discussed
the results of the
inspection with Mr. Marchionda and other members of your staff at the inspection exit
meeting on September 3, 1993.
Our inspector reviewed activities related to design modifications and engineering/technical
support for the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.
The inspection of design modifications
and engineering support of site activities was performed to assure that equipment and systems
would continue to perform their function in protecting the health and safety of the public,
and that engineering
has an effective role in this process.
The design modifications and other engineering support to R. E. Ginna reviewed during the
inspection were found to be effective and carefully developed to provide improved safety in
plant operation.
In particular, your steam generator replacement planning was aggressive,
the detailed instructions to accomplish the main generator voltage regulator modification were
well prepared,
and the new industrial safety personnel fall-arrest cable installation at the
steam generator locations was a good initiative.
