NRC Inspection No. 50-244/93-01
An announced
safety inspection of a spent fuel shipment and of the radwaste/transportation
program at your facility was conducted by Messrs. J. Noggle and J. Nick on January 19-
22, 1993 and was continued by Mr. Noggle on February 4, 1993.
The inspection findings
were discussed with members of your staff at an exit meeting on January 22, 1993 and
during the inspection on February 4, 1993.
Areas reviewed during the inspection were important to health and safety and are discussed
in the enclosed inspection report.
In general, your staff implements a technically sound
radwaste/transportation
program.
One unresolved item was identified regarding a lack of
solid radwaste processing parameters
in the documentation for the Process Control Program.
Additional inspection is required to resolve this matter.
Some procedure weaknesses
were
observed and a lack of sampling timeliness with one waste shipment was noted,
With respect
to the spent fuel shipment, a few details were identified by the inspector prior to the final
shipment, however, they were of minor safety significance and all were corrected prior to the
final shipment.
