Worth of Control Rods During Startup Physics Testing R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244
Dear Mr. Johnson:
Wisconsin Electric Power has informed us of their plans to implement a
new method to determine the worth of control rods during Startup Physics Testing.
The details and technological support for this method is described in a Westinghouse
- report, WCAP-13360, which was submitted to the NRC for review and approval.
It is our understanding that the review of this WCAP has been given a
low priority due to a perceived lack of interest or lack of importance within the industry.
Rochester Gas
& Electric is also actively investigating the implementation of this technology to.
obtain the benefits associated with design model verification as well as reduced testing time and makeup water usage.
- However, RG&E cannot proceed.
with this technology, unless we can attain some level of confidence that the methodology is being reviewed in an expedient manner.
As such, please consider increasing the priority of your review in order for us to proceed with the implementation of this technology.
