Docket No. 50-244
Dr. Robert
CD Mecredy
Vice President
Ginna Nuclear Production
Rochester
Gas
and Electric Corporation
89 East Avenue
Rochester,
14649
Dear Dr. Mecredy:
Subject:
Inspection
Report 50-244/91-20
This refers to the safety inspection
conducted
by Mr.
R. A. McBrearty of this
office on August 26-30,
1991 at the
R.
E. Ginna Nuclear
Power Plant, Ontario,
New York of activities authorized
by
NRC License
No ~
DPR-18 and to the
discussions
of our findings held by Mr. McBrearty with Mr. J.
A. Widay of your
staff at the conclusion of the inspection.
The inspection
was directed
toward the inservice inspection
program,
steam
generator
tube
eddy current examination
and the balance of plant erosion/
corrosion
program.
These
inspections
are
used to determine that programs
you
have in place to detect inservice degradation
satisfy your commitments
and
regulatory requirements.
Generally,
we found your program implementation
satisfactory.
Areas
examined during this inspection
are described
in the
NRC
Region I Inspection
Report which is enclosed with this letter.
Within these
areas,
the inspection consisted of selective
examinations of procedures
and
representative
records,
interviews with personnel,
and observations
by the
inspector.
Within the
scope of this inspection,
no violations were observed.
However,
a
weakness
was identified in the erosion/corrosion
examination
program in that
a
listing of unacceptable
components with open wall thickness
reports is not
published during outages for use
by the plant staff in assuring that problem
erosion/corrosion
situations
are corrected prior to plant startup.
No reply to this letter is required.
Your cooperation with us in this matter
is appreciated.
Sincerely,
ll)~ 4+'L V 4 \\
