to NRC Bulletin 88-11 Pressurizer Surge Line Thermal Stratification dated December -20, 1988 R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244
Dear Mr. Johnson,
The purpose of this letter is to respond to Item I.d of NRC Bulletin 88-11, dated December 20, 1988.
RG&E has initiated a program to complete the plant specific evaluation of the Ginna surge line for design life.
The Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) generic detailed analysis was completed in July and NRC review occurred in a
meeting in Pittsburgh on November 8 and 9, 1990. At that meeting, Westinghouse requested a delay in the schedule to allow for completion of on-going
- work, review by appropriate
- parties, preparation of transmittal
- letters, and submittal of reports to utilities.
Westinghouse 'plans to submit the final report to RG&E by May 30, 1991.
RG&E will review the Westinghouse analysis and determine if there are modifications required to the existing surge line supporting scheme.
To allow for RG&E review of this report and to make the necessary design change assessments, we anticipate an NRC submittal date, of October 30, 1991.
The Westinghouse Generic detailed analysis WCAP-12277 showed that subsequent to June 1989 the generic justification for continued operation (JCO) was valid for 10 heatup/cooldown cycles.
RG&E is therefore aware that a JCO will have to be submitted to the NRC should we reach the 10 heatup/cooldown cycles prior to the submittal date of this report.
