UNINPLEthENTED GENERIC SAfETY ISSUES AT R.E.

GINNA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT On April 25, 1990 the staff issued Generic Letter 90-04 which requested infor-mation concerning the implementation status of certain generic safety issues (GSIs) at your facility.

Based on your response to this Generic Letter, dated July 9, 1990, our own records and discussions viith your staff, we have updated our database on GSI implementation status.

The results of this effort were presented to the Commission at a meeting on October 25, 1990.

The enclosure to this letter summarizes the staff's understanding of the current status of those GSIs which remain unimplemented at R.E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant.

We appreciate the assistance you provided in responding to Generic Letter 90-04 and we encourage your timely completion of those GSIs listed in the enclosure.

A TITLE Improving the Reliability of Open-Cycle Service Water Systems Improved Accident Monitoring Items 4.5.2

& 4.5.3 Reactor Trip System Reliability - Test Alternatives and Intervals (System Functional Testing).

PROJECTED IMPLEMENTATION DATE 4/30/91 To be determined 2/15/91 RERARKS The RG&E letter of January 29, 1990, addresses the five issues that were documented in GL 89-13.

Those issues not already being addressed by,,

present programs require implementation of certain main-

tenance, procedure writing and testing actions.

RG&E letter to NRC of July 12, 1990, responds to all open issues of Regulatory Guide 1.97.

NRC Safety Evaluation (SE) to RG&E of December 4, 1990 found plant instrumentation acceptable with five exceptions.

RG&E is yet to schedule imple-mentation dates based on the December 4, 1990 SE.

RG&E provided agreement with Westinghouse Owners Group reports concerning the interval for testing of reactor trip system.

NRC is currently reviewing the RG&E response letter of October 4, 1990.
