Dated July 31, 1990.
Dear Mr. Johnson:
The purpose of this letter is to update the status of inoperable fire damper I-411-21-P.
Ruskin, the manufacturer of this damper, has been contacted and asked to comment on a design to install a removable track to replace the one side track that interferes with removal of the charcoal drawers that are behind the damper.
Their response was that they will have to submit this design to Underwriters Laboratory for review and comment/approval.
We are in the process of contracting for this review at this time.
Since this review will take several.weeks, we are, in parallel, preparing a design/installation package to 'replace this damper with a larger damper and opening.
As a result, we will not lose the time that it will take to get the results from Underwriters Laboratory should the review come back that a removable side track is not an approved configuration.
In either instance, we will have the necessary modification designed and installed by July 31, 1991.
The established hourly fire watch in accordance with Technical Specification 3.14.6.1 will remain in effect.
