Dear Mr. Russell:
Within the scope of a
routine unannounced inspection of our Radiation Protection
- Program, the following concern was raised; The practice of allowing individuals to eat and drink within the secondary chemistry laboratory was indicated to be inconsistent with generally accepted industry standards.
Zn support of this, the inspector provided a
reference to 29 CFR 1910.141 which delineates the requirements for areas which are exposed to toxic materials.
Zn response to the concern presented, we have evaluated and changed our policy.
We no longer allow individuals to eat and drink in the chemistry laboratory.
The laboratory areas have been posted with warning signs indicating "Consumption of Food or Beverage Prohibited in Laboratory Area".
Zn further response to this concern, the Rochester Gas
& Electric Corporate Safety
& Health Services Department has been requested to provide further direction for other areas of the plant where this rule may apply.
