Dear Mr. Stahle:
The Reference provided our 180 day response to IEB 85-03.
In that response it was stated that we intended to complete the valve testing program within two years from the date of IEB 85-03; however, testing of valves that require a shutdown would not be completed until the spring 1988 refueling outage.
The Ginna valve testing program is patterned after the Callaway program and uses the methodology and equipment of MOVATS, Inc.
Since the 180 day response, the valve testing program has been significantly refined.
Implementation of the MOVATS method-ology is detailed and complex, and it has not been possible to complete testing of the IEB 85-03 valves that do not require shutdown conditions for testing within the two year window stated in IEB 85-03.
We believe, however, that this program will provide a significant improvement in our ability to demonstrate valve operability and will provide a sound basis for setting motor operated valves.
Based on our current schedule, it is anticipated that testing of the IEB 85-03 valves will be completed within 60 days of startup from the 1988 refueling outage or in May 1988 with our current outage schedule.
The final report will be submitted within 60 days following completion of valve testing.
