Eldon Brunner Chief Projects Branch Nl, Division of Resident and Project Inspection
Dear Nr. Brunner:
This letter is in response to Appendix A of the inspection report for Inspection 81-06 received on SeptEmber 25, 1981.
Contrary to procedure PC-18.1, the mercuric thiocyanate reagent used for chloride analysis had not been prepared within four weeks of the inspection.
The mercuric thiocyanate reagent. is normally prepared by the sec-ondary lab personnel since their usage requirements are much greater than in the primary lab.
The reagent in question was reportedly trans-ferred fran the secondary lab, where the reagent was current~
on the day previous to the inspection.
No proof is available for this since the expiration date on the autopipettor had not been changed.
Tb preclude reoccurence, the reagent bottle in the primary lab is being removed.
The autopipettor in the secondary lab will be utilized for primary as well as secondary analysis.
Also, the amount of reagent which is prepared is sized small enough so it will be used within a four week period.
This has always been the case Mich supports Mat was stated above.
A directive has been placed in the Health Physics/Chemistry Day Order Book informing the technicians of this change.
