I lO DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR 0 FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE 100 Grange Place Room 202 Cortland, New York 13045 September 28, 1982 hIr. D.hI. Crutchfield Operating Reactors Branch 85 Division of Licensing Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555

Dear hIr. Crutchfield:

This responds to your September 2, 1982 letter to the Regional Director, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service requesting information on the presence of any endangered or threatened species in the vicinity of the Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation's R.E. Gonna Nuclear Power Plant located in the Town of Ontario, New York. Your request was forwarded to me for a response as the Regional Director has delegated informal section 7 Endangered Species Consultation responsibilities to the Division of Ecological Services's Field Supervisors. Any future request you may have should be directed to Paul P. Hamilton, Field Supervisor, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 100 Grange Place, Room 202, Cortland, New York 13045. Information on the presence of federally listed or proposed endangered or threatened species within the R.E. Gonna Nuclear Power Plant project area is hereby provided.

Except for occasional transient species, no tederally listed or proposed threatened or endangered species under our jurisdiction are known to exist in the project impact area. Therefore, no Biological Assessment or further Section 7 consultation under the Endangered Species Act (87 Stat. 884, as amended; 16 U.S.C. 1531 et seq.) is required with the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS). Should project plans change, or if additional information on listed or proposed species becomes available, this deter-mination may be reconsidered. A compilation of federally listed endangered and threatened species in New York is enclosed for your information.

This response relates only to endangered species under our jurisdiction.

It does not address other FWS concerns under the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act or other legislation.
