SEP Topic III-6, Seismic Qualification of Tanks R.

E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket, No. 50-244

Dear Mr. Crutchfield:

Enclosed for your information are three reports dealing with the seismic qualification of tanks at the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant, as referenced in our letter of June 16, 1983.

1.

Seismic Qualification Report for the Refueling Water Storage Tank 2.

Seismic Qualification Report, for Vertical Holdup Tanks 3.

Seismic Qualification Report for the Waste Holdup Tank Based on the results of these

analyses, no modifications are required for any of these tanks.

One subject area remains in order to complete the RWST analysis the local stress analyses of the shell under attached piping nozzle loads.

The loads were not generated in time to be included in the analysis, but will be submitted in the near future.

It should be noted that the results of the analysis for the Waste Holdup Tank reduces the volume of liquid assumed to be discharged into the auxiliary building during a seismic event (even though the previous level was already acceptably low).

The seismic qualification of the Waste Holdup Tank reduces the volume on the basement floor from 115,241 gallons to 93,803 gallons, resulting in a water level on the floor of about 8 inches instead of 15 inches.
