NRC Bulletin 89-01 requested that licensees verify installation of selected steam generator tube mechanical plugs supplied by Westinghouse, and if applicable, address action items 2 through 4.

ACTIONS REQUESTED NRC BULLETIN 89-01 A.

Res onse to Action Item 1:

Rochester Gas and Electric (RG&E) has reviewed the information provided by Westinghouse in WCAP-12244, Rev.

1 and in Reference 2 of NRC Bulletin 89-01; and RG&E concurs that no mechanical plugs from heat batches 3279; 3513,

3962, and 4523 are installed in the Ginna steam generators.

Presently, Ginna has 176 Westinghouse Alloy 600 mechanical plugs installed in the B steam generator dand no Westinghouse Alloy 600 mechanical plugs installed in the A steam generator.

These plugs are from three different heat batches.

The specific heat batches installed at,.Ginna and the number of plugs in each heat batch are presented below.

These items were not applicable to Rochester Gas and Electric since Westinghouse mechanical plugs from heat batches

3279, 3513,

3962, and 4523 are not installed at Ginna.

Res onse to Action Item 2(d):

1 All of the Westinghouse Alloy 600 mechanical plugs present in the B

steam generator at Ginna were installed in outages between December 1979 and October 1982.

Subsequent to the 1982

outage, Rochester Gas and Electric discontinued using Westinghouse Alloy 600 mechanical plugs.

Rochester Gas and Electric has no plans to install any Westinghouse Alloy 600 mechanical plugs in the future.

Res onse to Action Item 2(e):

During the 1989 refueling outage at Ginna seven (7) mechanical plugs were removed from the Ginna steam generators

[four (4) from the A steam generator and three

[3] from the B steam generator).

Two of these plugs which were representative of heat batches NX-1660 and NX-9789 were provided to Westinghouse for examination to'ssess their resistance to PWSCC.

At future outages samples of any Westinghouse mechanical plugs that are removed will be offered'o Westinghouse for examination to improve their data base on heat batch specific resistance to PWSCC.

These items are not applicable to Rochester Gas and Electric since Westinghouse mechanical plugs from heat batches
