Dear Mr. Stahle:
Generic Letter 88-11, implementing Regulatory Guide 1.99, was issued on July 12, 1988.
It requested that licensees respond.
within 180 days of the date of the Regulatory
- Guide, which was issued about two months earlier in May 1988.

=- understands that discussion between industry and the NRC have developed an understanding that a
response within 180 days of the receipt of the letter is acceptable.
Since it requires considerable effort to respond to the Generic Letter/Regulatory
- Guide, we have contracted with Westinghouse to provide the technical basis'for the response.
This work is anticipated to be complete in January 1989 and therefore, RGGE intends to respond within 180 days of our receipt of the Generic Letter, namely by January 22, 1989.
