Dear Mr. Johnson:
The purpose of this letter is to explain the status of two RG&E commitments recently reviewed by the NRC.
In Section 3.2 of the subject inspection report and its cover letter, it was indicated that RG&E had deferred the completion of two commitments until the 1994 refueling outage.
The inspector was concerned that these items did not receive proper follow-up and the docket did not reflect these changes in status.
The report identified this concern as unresolved item 93-05-01.
These two commitments, identified in RG&E's tracking.system as R01968 and R01969, had previously been made by RG&E as part of our response to Inspection Report No.91-201, Service Water System inspection.
The first item (R01968) involved development of an erosion/corrosion program and the second item (R01969) involved the conduct of an underground piping inspection of the service water system.
Relative to R01968, our commitment to develop an erosion/corrosion program has not been extended.
The 1993 Refueling Outage Erosion/Corrosion Inspection Plan (SWSROP-001) was completed to support the 1993 outage and the Service Water System Reliability Optimization Program (SWSROP) Plan was revised (Rev. 2, 4/20/93) to include the necessary changes to the erosion/corrosion activities previously identified by NRC as weaknesses during the Generic Letter 89-13 reviews of our program.
Therefore, item R01968 is completed.

Relative to R01969, a letter was submitted, Reference (a),
which notified the NRC of our intent, and the basis for the extension, of the underground piping inspection, which is being developed under Engineering Work Request 5405.
Since the 93-05 inspection was conducted during the period from February 16-.19, 1993, just prior to our submittal being
- made, this may have resulted in the inspector's reported concern.
Item R01969'as been rescheduled for the 1994 refueling outage.
We trust that the Reference (a) submittal and this additional information provides the necessary clarification.
