Dear Dr. Mecredy:

Subject:

NRC Inspection

No. 50-244/91-17

This letter transmits the results of NRC Inspection Report No.

50-244/91-17,

a routine unannounced

safety inspection of the

radiation protection program at your facility.

The inspection

was conducted

by P. O'onnell and R. Lance on August

12 to 16,

1991.

Areas reviewed included organization,

control room

habitability, operation of area radiation monitors, control of

locked high radiation areas,

contamination controls

and control

of radioactive material,

and ALARA.

The inspectors

reviewed

a procedure

which had been revised

and

subsecpxently

reviewed by the Plant Operations

Review Committee

(PORC).

The inspectors identified that

a Technical Specification

requirement

had been inadvertently deleted

from the procedure

during the last revision. It appears that more attention to

detail by the

PORC is required during procedure

review.

The inspectors

attended

the ALARA post-job briefing for the

refueling outage

steam generator

work.

During the briefing there

was good communications

between different departments

and

effective use of lessons

learned

was noted.
