Subject:

IE Bulletin No.80-20 R.E.

Ginna Nuclear Power Plant Docket No. 50-244

Dear Mr. Grier:

This letter supplements our response of September 10, 1980 to IE Bulletin 80-20, Failures of Nestinghouse Type W-2 Spring Return to Neutral Control Switches.

In our response we committed to perform continuity tests on all switches which are actuated within 7 days of their actuation and on all switches at least once per 31 days.

Ne wish to clarify that the continuity tests will not necessarily be performed while the 'plant is at cold or refueling shutdown.

For switches that are actuated during a cold or refueling outage, continuity tests will be performed within 7 days of leaving cold shutdown.

For switches that are not actuated during a cold or refueling outage, continuity tests will be performed within 14 days of leaving cold shutdown unless this is more restrictive than an elapsed 31 days since the last, test.

In this latter case, the 31 day test interval will be applied.

A modification is currently planned which will provide for continuous continuity testing'.

The testing discussed above will no longer be required once the modification is installed.

Very truly yours,
