Dear Mr. Crutchfield:
Darrel Eisenhut's letter dated October 31, 1980 provided clarification of, and incorporated in one document, all TMI related items approved for implementation by the Commission.
Item II.K.3.30, revised small break LOCA methods, required licensees to submit an outline program for model justification or revision by November 15, 1980.
Westinghouse Electric Corpora-tion has stated that it feels very strongly that the small'break LOCA analysis model currently approved by the Staff for use on Westinghouse designed NSSS is conservative and in conformance with 10 CFR 50.46 and Appendix K.
Nevertheless Westinghouse has agreed to work toward improvements of the current methods.
The program outline and schedule are contained in a letter from Mr. T.
M. Anderson to Mr. D. G. Eisenhut dated September 26, 1980 (NS-TMA-2318).
A new model based on a computer code different from the one currently used is planned to be developed and sub-mitted to the NRC staff by January 1, 1982. If new plant specific calculations are required to demonstrate R.
E. Ginna compliance with Appendix K to 10 CFR Part 50, those calculations will be submitted within one year of Staff approval of the new model.
