JNullin VStel.lo In your letter dated February 16, 1979, to Chairman Hendrie giving your reaction to the Risk Assessment Review Group Report (Lewis Report), you urged the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to review the R.
E. Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in regard to its "safety standards".
We do, as a
matter of course, monitor the operation of al I nuclear plants through the onsite inspection program of our Office of Inspection and Enforcement and continuously review ongoing generic safety issues through the repor'ts and responses submitted to our Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation by the licensees of each operating plant.
In addition, the R. E. Ginna Nuclear Plant is one of'he eleven older nucJear plants which is presently being reviewed under the Systematic Evaluation Program.
The objective of this program is to reassess the safety 'margins that were.deemed to exist.
when the plant was licensed and to the extent possible compare. them with similar safety margins that result fr om the application of present day licensing criteria.
This is a comprehenisve effort which started for the Ginna plant in the Spring of 1978 and is scheduled to be completed in early 1981.
