Dear Mr. Zieman:
On October 2, 1978 we received a
copy of IE Bulletin No. 78-12 requesting information on the possibility of having atypical weld material in our reactor vessel.
Since that time we have re-viewed all the information available to us on our reactor vessel and can only call your attention to our correspondence of September 13, 1977 on Ginna's reactor vessel material surveillance program.
In order to better answer your questions, we have contracted Westing-house Electric Corporation to assist us in getting as much informa-tion as possible from the vessel fabricator, the Babcock and Wilcox Company.
Westinghouse Electric Corporation has informed us that they have met with personnel from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to discuss IE Bulletin 78-12 on a generic basis and that further infor-mation on this bulletin will be forthcoming.
- Also, in order for Westinghouse to meet our request for assistance along with many other utility clients, we are requesting an extension until there has been clarification from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on IE Bulletin 78-12.
