Site: SALEM Emergency Class: NON EMERGENCY "At approximately 1010 [EDT] on August 29, 2017, a dead turtle was removed from the Unit 1 Circulating Water System (CWS) Intake trash racks at the Salem Generating Station. The turtle was identified as an endangered Kemps-Ridley Sea Turtle by a site biological expert at 1033 [EDT]. Kemp Ridley turtles are federally listed as endangered species under the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as amended. Nuclear Environmental Affairs has made a determination that this condition warrants 4 hr report to the NRC under Reportable Action Level 11.8.8.a. of the Salem Emergency Classification Guide.
A report was made to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center at 1037, National Marine Fisheries at 1051, and the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife at 1052.
Notified R1DO (Cook) and the Endangered Species Resource via email.
