COMPLETION OF EVALUATIONFOR GENERIC LETTER 97-05, "STEAM GENERATOR TUBE"INSPECTION TECHNIQUES," DATED DECEMBER 17,

'997 - ST. LUCIE UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0498 AND MA0499)

Dear Mr. Stall:

On December 17, 1997, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) issued Generic Letter (GL) 97-05, "Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques," to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits. The focus of the GL wasto verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases.

Florida Power 8 Light Company submitted a response to this GL on March 11, 1998, that included a description and technical basis for all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at St. Lucie, Units 1 and 2. The staff's review of this response did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at St. Lucie that would indicate the licensee is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for this facility. Therefore, TAC Nos. MA0498 and MA0499 are closed.

Ifyou have any questions regarding this matter, please contact me on (301) 415-1479.
