SUBJECT:
GENERIC LETTER 97-04 RESPONSE SCHEDULE
Dear Mr. Plunkett:
By letter dated November 4, 1997, Florida Power and Light Company (FPL) responded to Generic Letter (GL) 97-04, "Assurance of Sufficient Net Positive Suction Head for Emergency Core Cooling and Containment Heat Removal Pumps," for St. Lucie Units 1 and 2. In this
- response, FPL committed to provide the requested information but not within the requested time period of 90 days from the date of the GL. Due to the impact on engineering resources from a Unit 1 outage, FPL committed to submit the information by March 31, 1998.
Prior to submittal of this response, FPL had held informal discussions with Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff during which the staff had indicated that a delay in submittal of the requested information would be acceptable.
Subsequent to receipt of the November 4, 1997, submittal, the staff determined that, although the outage activities justified a delayed submittal, a submittal date of March 31, 1998, would not support internal schedule requirements.
A conference call was held with members of your staff on December 12, 1997, to request an expedited submittal of the requested information. As a result of this call your staff agreed to submit the requested information by January 31, 1998. Your staff subsequently requested an additional week, until February 6, 1998, to prepare the submittal.
The FPL proposal to submit the requested information by February 6, 1998, is acceptable to the staff. We also appreciate the cooperation of your staff in reaching a mutually acceptable schedule.
Ifyou have any questions concerning this issue, please contact me at (301) 415-1495.
Docket No. 50-335 and 50-389 Sincerely,
