LUCIE PLANT UNIT NO.
2 In your memorandum dated February 28, 1986, you requested that we complete our review of previous requests dealing with the adequacy of the automatic sprinkler system in certain fire areas of St.
Lucie Plant, Unit No. 2.
The staff has completed its review and believes that the enclosed evaluation provides the necessary guidance to resolve this open issue.
Based on this evaluation, we have concluded that, in those locations where redundant shutdown systems are present, obstructions to the sprinkler systems should be mitigated by the relocation of existing sprinkler heads and/or the addition of new sprinklers, and/or the removal of the obstructions.
In those fire areas where only one shutdown train exists, the present configuration of sprinklers is considered acceptable.
This action is related to two previous requests from Region II.
The first request resulted in the establishment of TIA 83-64 and opening of TAC 51780.
The second request for support was made in April 6, 1984 and refers to TIA 83-64.
This request resulted in TIA 84-28, TAC 54746.
As a result of this review and evaluation, both TIA 83-64 and TIA 84-28, and their associated TAC Nos., are considered closed.
