I was pleased to receive your letter of May 25, 1981 noting the assfstance in the area of nuclear safety which NRC has been providing to the IAEA and proposing more formal arrangements with regard to safety documentation.

We have found our association with the Agency most rewardfng and beneficial and appreciate your kfnd words of thanks for our efforts.

As to the matter of assuring that the Division of Nuclear Safety (DNS) systematically receives all NRC material relevant to the Agency's safety activities, I understand that Dr. E. Iansftf of the DNS currently receives all information passed to our exchange agree-ment partners through the NRC technical notification-system, the purpose of.which fs to advise recipients on a timely basis of events in the U. S. of major safety import and/or high public interest, as well as of important NRC actions taken and reports released.

We will be pleased to formalize what has been, I hope, an effective working arrangement to date.

May I suggest that Morris Rosen contact Dr. Joseph Lafleur, Deputy Director of our Office of International Programs and the administrator of our fnternatfonal arrangements, to discuss with hfm how best-to accomplish thfs and to ensure that any specific DNS safety concerns or interests are accommodated.

This would assist us greatly fn developing a draft proposal for your consideration.
