Dear Hr. Hankla:

e-Florida Power and Light Company has applied for an operating license for e St. Lucie Plant Unit No, 2 which is under construction and nearing completion.

The St. Lucie site consists of two nuclear units (1 and 2), of which No.

1 is operational.

The site is located on Hutchinson Island in St. Lucie County about halfway between the cities of Fort Pierce and Stuart on the east coast of Florida.

The location of the site is shown in the enclosed map.

t An Enviranmental Impact Statement was prepared at the construction permit stage of the pro5ect, and the staff of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is required to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement as part of this application review.

Ta assure a thorough review, and to facilitate aur compliance with the Endangered Species Act of 1973, as

amended, 16 U.S.C.S 1531 et seq.,

we request that your office provide any information you may have as to ~7ieeher plants or animals listed or proposed to be listed as endangered or threathened species may be present in the vicinity of the site.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff is planning a site visit on February 18, 1981 as part of the environmental review and invites your attendance.
