RESPONSE

OF FLORIDA CITIES TO JOINT MOTION OF APPLICANT, DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE AND STAFF FOR SUSPENSION OF DISCOVERY PROCEEDINGS BEFORE THE ATOMIC SAFETY AND LICENSING BOARD In the matter of Ij Ff NRC Docket No.

50-389A

)

)

)

Florida Cities have had numerous settlement discussions with the applicant,.Florida Power.

6 Light Company.

They have also had meetings with the Department of Justice and NRC Staff.

.They plan to meet with counsel for Florida Power a

Light Company next week.

In addition, counsel has a meeting scheduled next week with the Steering Group of-the Florida Cities.

Taking the above into account, Florida Cities can fully support a short extension, since settlement discussions are being actively pursued by various parties.

However, they do not have sufficient basis at this time to be able to recom-mend or supp'ort a further extension until January 2,

1980.

They 'therefore join in the motion for an extention through November 20, 1979 and will report to the Board on or before that date whether, in their judgment, further extensions can be justified.

Respectfully submitted, Attorney for Florida Cities November 8, 1979
