Quad Cities Station Units 1&2 Dresden Station.Units 2&3 "Transmittal of Information Pertaining to the Enlbedmen~ Plate Assessment Program" NRC Docket No. 50-254 & 265 50-237 & 249
Dear Mr. Murley:
The purpose of this letter is to provide your staff with information regarding the origin of the Attached Plate Analysis, or APLAN which was used in the Dresden and Quad Cities Embedment Plate Assessment Program.
APLAN is a finite element program which can analyze rectangular attachment plates mounted on reinforced concrete by means of expansion anchors, headed welding studs, or wire embedments.
The bending analysis includes the partial contact of the plate with the concrete wall.
APLAN was developed in 1985 by Sargent and Lundy (The Architect Engineer involved in the Embed Assessment Program) and was validated in accordance with S&L Generai Office Procedures and ANSI-IEEE 730.
Additionally, APLAN was further validated by comparing the program results (reactions and stresses) to those generated by the ADINA program (which is a well known NRC approved program) for t.hree problems.
This data is available for inspection.
Please direct any questions that you may have regarding this matter to the office.
