D. M. Crutchfield letter to Cordell Reed dated February 12, 1988.
Dear Mr. Crutchfield:
An item in the Reference (a) response to the Dresden Diagnostic Evaluation indicated an intent to establish on-site engineering and nuclear safety groups.
The target date for both was given as March 1, 1988.
i1 While the On-Site BWR Engineering Group has been successfully staffed and is currently functional, some d~fficulties have been encountered in staffing the On-Site Nuclear Safety Group (ONSG) as early as projected.
This letter provides a status of the effort to establish the Dresden Nuclear Safety Group and updates the target date for achieving a functional full-time group.
To date, the following steps have been taken:
1, Interim assistance has been arranged from the corporate Nuclear Safety Department for significant part-time onsite involvement by experienced personnel, including the.Dresden senior Participant from the off-Site Review Group.
An example of this assistanc_e-includes chairing a task force to review Dresden'~ program for managing Tech Spec surveillances.
- 2.
An individual with ttie appropriate qualification and experience has been selected to supervise the ONSG.

- 3. Several individuals have been identified as potential candidates to fill the other full-time ONSG po~itions.
- 4. Clerical support and office logistics (furniture, etc.) have been arranged and are currently available.
Unfortunately, as a result of *the required experience level of the personnel selected to staff the Dresden group, it has not been possible to arrange for appropriate replacements to fill the positions which they will vacate.
We now believe this can be accomplished in the second quarter of this year with a current target date of June 1, 1988.
In the interim, corporate Nuclear safety will continue their onsite assistanc~ to Dresden.
Additionally, in order to a promote good transition, corporate Nuclear Safety will facilitate making the incumbent ONSG supervisor available to Dresden part time, to the extent feasible.
Other members of the new group will be selected and, if possible, also made available part time.
If any additional. information is needed regarding this matter, please contact this office.
Very truly yours, 0-tt~?J~~ --*
