STATUS MEETING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF COMMONWEALTH EDISON COMPANY'S NUCLEAR GENERATION GROUP
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
This refers to the meeting conducted at the NRC Region Ill Office in Lisle, Illinois, on November 17, 1998. The purpose of this meeting was to discuss Commonwealth Edison Company (ComEd) Nuclear Generation Group's (NGG's) performance as it relates to actions ComEd has taken in response to the NRC's 10 CFR 50.54(f) letter, dated January 27, 1997, regarding safety performance at Com Ed's nuclear facilities. Attendees at the meeting are listed in Enclosure 1. Enclosure 2 is a copy of ComEd's presentation materials.
The ComEd presentation included the status of the Strategic Reform Initiative (SRI) closure packages, a summary of selected SRI action steps, a discussion of configuration control and material condition improvements, an update on Quad Cities Appendix R issues, and a discussion of initial operator. licensing training program corrective actions.
Based*on the ComEd presentation, the following SRI items are considered to be closed in the NRC ComEd Oversight Action Plan:
NGG-1, Performance Indicators, Action Step 4 NGG-1, Management Response, Action Step 1 NGG-5, Assess Organizational Accountability and Revise Structure, Action Steps 1, 2, and 3 NGG-6, Refine Business Management Process, Action Steps 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 NGG-8, Engineering Improvements, Action Step 2 The next status meeting will be conducted on January 28, 1999, at 1 :00 p.m.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's "Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
