50-237/9701 O(DRS); 50-249/9701 O(DRS))
Dear Mr. Kingsley:

This acknowledges receipt of your letter dated April 10, 1998, notifying us of a planned change
to a commitment made in your letter dated July 31, 1997, in response to a Notice of Violation
associated with the failure to control access and egress from a Locked High Radiation Area
(LHRA) at your Dresden Nuclear Power Station. In your letter, you indicated that the original
corrective action to prevent recurrence of the violation would require that a log be used to track
each entry/exit of individuals for all LHRA and Very High Radiation Area (VHRA) entries. The
revised change would require a log to track each entry/exit of LHRA/VHRA entries to maintain
accountability of personnel in areas in which the door locking mechanism would prevent free,
unobstructed egress from the area (i.e., padlock on the door). We have reviewed your change
to the commitment to prevent recurrence of a violation and have no further questions at this
time. This change will be examined during future inspections.
