MEETING
SUMMARY
CONCERNING COMMONWEAL TH EDISON COMPANY ENGINEERING IMPROVEMENT INITIATIVE

On March 5, 1998, Commonwealth-Edison Company (ComEd) made~ presentation to the NRR projects staff in PD 111..:2. regarding ComEd's planned engineering improvement program. A list of attendees,is provided as Attachment 1.
The objective of the meeting was for ComEd to discuss an engineering improvement initiative which is common to all ComEd facilities and a~tiohs taken by ComEd regarding lessons learned from the Quad Cities Appendix R issues. A copy of the licensee's presentation is included as. *
- Major subjects discussed during the meeting included initiatives related to Design Basis Information, Configuration Docume.ntation and their Licensing/Design Basis* Change Process,
- inGluding Com Ed's 1 O CFR 50.59 program.
ComEd also discussed Quad Cities Appe'ndix R actions,and' lessons learned. A review at all ComEd facilities has been done to assure that procedures are consistent with the Safe Shutdown Analysis. Fire protection engineers from all of the ComEd facilities held a lessons learned meeting at Quad C.ities to discuss the Quad Cities,fire. p~otection issue$. There is also a fire protection process improvement program being developed. The Quality and Safety Assessment organization will ha,ve an oversight function to perform assessments/audits to verify lessons learned are l;>eing evaluated at the sites.
