SUBJECT:

RADIATION PROTECTION INSPECTION AT-DRESDEN

This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by Mr. M. A. Kunowski

of this office from March 24 to May 26, 1993.

The inspection included a

review of authorized activities for your Dresden Nuclear Station, Units 2 and

3. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings w~re discussed with the

member of your staff identified in the-enclosed report.

Areas ~xamined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within

these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures

and representative records, obse~vations, and interviews with personnel.

Based on the results of this inspection, certain of your activities appeared

to be in violation of NRC requirements.

As described in the enclosed

inspection report, you identified this violation, which involved the willful

misconduct of two workers.

However, the violation will not be subject to

eDforcement action because your efforts in identifying and correcting the

violation meet the criteria specified in Section VII.B of the."General

Statement of Policy and Procedures for NRC Enforcement Actions," (Enforcement

Policy, *10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C}.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of

this letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room~
