Dear Dr. Denton:

Dresden Station Unit~ 1, 2 and 3 Quad-Cities Station Units 1 and 2 Recirculation Pump T~ip Modifications NRC Docket Nos. 50-10/237/249 and 50-254/265 C. Reed letter to H.: R. Denton dated March 29, 1979 This transmittal is in respons~ to requests from the NRC Staff to update our schedule for instalJation of the recirculation pump trip modifications at Dresden and buad-Cities which were provided to you in Reference (a).

follows:

R e v i s i on s t o t h e s c h e d u 1 e p r e s *~ n t e d i n R e f e r e n c e ( a ) are as Dresden Unit 1 - Prior to star:tup from current chemical clearing outage I

Quad-Cities Unit 2 -

C~rrent Fall 1979 refueling outage Dresden Unit 2 - January 4, 19gl refueling outage These dates are in conformance with the~ schedule outlined in the January 8, 1979 letters from H. R. Denton to C. Reed and subsequent meetings with the NRC.

As indicated iri~ Reference (a), these dates are contingent upon expected equipment delieveries and refueling outage schedules~

Due to the.difficult~ in making portions of the installation during plant operation, the existing equipment delivery schedules, and the difficulty in mobili~ing ~ontra2tors to perform the 1<Jork on short notice, completing th'e installations prior to the above schedule d~tes is not expected.

However, it is our intention to make the*.installations as soon as po~sible if scheduled outages of sufficient lehgth ~ccur.

  • i Although we expect the installations at Quad-Cities 2 to be complete.at the conclµsion of the curr~nt refueling outage, they ~ay not be placed in service since analyses which evaluate the effect of the r~circulation pump trip on plant tfansient response may not be completed.

The installations will be made functional and any necessary Technical Specification chan~es submitted upon completion of these analyses.

Please address any questions Y.ou may have concerning this matter to this office~
