SUBJECT:

Dresden Station Units 1, 2 and 3 Quad-Cities Station Units 1 and 2 Zion Station Units 1 and 2 correction to Additional Response Concerning Containment Purging During Normal Plant Operation NRC Docket Nos. 50-10/237/249, 50-254/265, and 50-295/304.

REFERENCE (a):

July 2, 1979 letter from Cordell Reed to Harold R. Denton

Dear Mr. Denton:

Per Reference (a) Commonwealth Edison company provided the NRC Staff commitments regarding Purging during normal operation, at Dresden, Quad-Cities and Zion Stations.

At the June 28, 1979 meet-ing between Commonwealth Edison and NRC Staff personnel, Zion Station's needs for purging at hot shutdown, at hot standby and at power operation were discussed.

From this discussion and subsequent discussions on june 29, 1979, Commonwealth Edison** indicated that purging at power at Zion Station could and would be restricted until purge valves have been analyzed and determined to be capable of closure under a DBA (Design Basis Accident).

Thus, Commonwealth Edison* s commitment *an purging for* Zion Station contained in Item 1) a) on page 2 of Reference (a) should be revised to read:

"No purging at power will be permitted until purge valves have been analyzed and determined to be capable of closure under a DBA (Design Basis Accident)".

Please address any additional questions that you might have concerning this matter to this office.

Very truly yours, Cordell Reed 7907130 3.:2....:<_
